Continuing on with the periodic table bring us to Lithium, the third element.
Lithium is an alkali (group 1) metal with an atomic number of 3 and a mass of 6.941 amu. It is the lightest of all metals and is highly reactive; Thus Lithium never occurs freely in nature. It was discovered in 1817 and was first isolated in 1821.
Lithium has many applications which include: treating mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, batteries, ceramics and glass production, lubrication, pyrotechnics (the pink/red fireworks), among others.
