Geocache Description:

The cache is on the Karapiro section of the 'Te Awa' pathway. The river path has great views of the lake from up high on solid walking paths and down low on the river boardwalk.

The Karapiro Te Awa extension was opened in April 2013 and extends the existing path from Leamington to the start of the rowing course at Lake Karapiro. The pathway is suited for pedestrians, pushchairs and cyclists, however there are some very steep parts that may make it unsuitable for wheelchairs. Although a welcome facility at Karapiro, showcasing the lake and its natural vista, the pathway was not built without controversy.

The section of the pathway that the cache is hidden on is a raised wooden platform with a handrail spoiling not only the view of the lake, but it is not in keeping with the natural characteristics of the environment. So how better to enhance its functionally than to turn it into a Geocache.

Suggested parking is in the Mighty River Domain or for the fit, looking for some serious exercise, feel free to park in Leamington.

The cache is a clear sistema 1 litre container full of many trinkets when placed.
