Geocache Description:

Placed for the August 2013, thirty one day challenge. This is an easy one for you when you have a busy day and just want to get in a quick smilie/ souvenir.

The Quarry The rock that was quarried here was Wissahickon schist. Wissahickon schist is a building stone and is used primarily as a decorative stone rather than a weight bearing stone. There are numerous old buildings in the Philadelphia area that are constructed almost entirely of this rock. The Havertown quarry stopped production in 1973 after Hurricane Agnes caused flooding in the quarry. In the early 1980's it became a " clean land fill"- refilled with rock, concrete, bricks etc. Experts in the 90's predicted the quarry would take 35 years to fill but here we are today; the quarry filled in, a shopping center in its place. Congratulations to CacheBoy2005 on your first FTF!
