Cache near Agnounda Monastery on the coastroad from Epidauros to Korinth
Agnounda Monastery
The monastery of Agnounda is an old monastery with beautiful Byzantine frescoes. The first monastery here was probably built in the 8th century, but the church of this monastery is from the 11th century.
At this moment, there are about 12 Nuns living in the monastery. I think that they like gardening, because the garden around the church is really beautiful. There are signs with: ‘don’t pick any flowers’.
Near the entrance there is a shop where you can buy homemade traditional Greek products, icons and crosses etc.
The monastery is open all day. There is the normal Greek dress code for monasteries, but they provide skirts at the entrance.
Opposite the monastery, at the other site of the road, are two monuments. The small memorial is for two Greek students who lost their life by an accident.
The big memorial shows the names of a lot of local people executed by the Germans in 1944.
