Orange Lake in New Port Richey is believed to be a natural sinkhole, not a man made lake and was once referred to as Blue Sink. Presumably because the name Blue Sink was applied to numerous deep sinkholes in Florida, the name of the lake was changed circa 1914. In the 1920s a 9 hole golf course was developed around the lake, in part by famed golfer Gene Sarazen, who lived in New Port Richey at the time. In a city election in1935, New Port Richey voters decided to discontinue the golf course and use the property around Orange Lake as a park only. In 1946 a war memorial was added. Your quest for this smiley will take you on a pleasant walking tour around Orange Lake and you can follow a paved sidewalk from beginning to end, a distance of approximately 1/4 mile. During your tour you will visit five "stations", one for each branch of the armed services, Navy, Army, Coastguard, Marines, and Air Force. At each station there will be bricks inscribed with dates and names of servicemen and women from the area, one brick from each station holds a key to your smiley. While coordinates for each station are not needed to complete this cache they are nonetheless provided. When you have completed the fifth stop you will have the coordinates to the final located at:
