The Tisch library roof has long been a favorite location at Tufts, centrally located on campus and with beautiful views of the Boston skyline. In 2009, the space was extensively renovated, beautified, and rededicated as a memorial in honor of Alex Mendell, a sophomore who committed suicide in 2003. More information about Alex’s Place can be found on the descriptive plaque at the entrance.
The coordinates are not for the cache itself, but for the gnomon of a giant sundial. The cache is located somewhere at approximately 6pm (~7pm Daylight Savings Time) within Alex's Place. The cache is very well camouflaged, but there is no need to trample any of the seasonal rooftop vegetation. BYOP.
A note about terrain and accessibility: Tufts campus is a steep hill. However, this cache is wheelchair accessible. If you wish to avoid going up hill or up stairs, I recommend entering the Dowling Hall parking garage from Boston Ave and exiting on the 7th floor. Ask anyone how to get to the library roof, or consult one of the readily available campus maps. Free parking exists along sections of Boston Ave and College Ave, or a $5 token can be purchased at Dowling Hall to park in Dowling. The 94 and 96 buses run from Davis Square (get off anywhere between College Ave @ Dearborn Rd and Boston Ave @ Tufts Garage), as does the free Tufts shuttle, “the Joey,” which picks up across the street from Somerville Theater and will drop you off at the campus center across the street from the library (available during school year only). If you are walking up the hill in winter, watch out for icy surfaces. The roof is accessible year-round, and well lit (beautifully so) at night.
This is my first cache, so I appreciate any feedback, and I hope you enjoy this special place as much as I do!
Congratulations to BiggyB and Gabby2X for the FTF!
