Historically before the reconstruction and extension works, Westall Road ran as a semi-major road from just south of the Dandenong Rail line at Westall Station to Heatherton Road, and as a minor road from the railway line to Centre Road. The previous thoroughfare consisted of taking McNaughton Road, Kombi Road and Rayhur Street. The Westall Road Extension; north to Princes Highway and south to Springvale Road, were designed to reduce traffic which travels through Springvale via Springvale Road.
...Before the Extensions, Westall Road from Heatherton Road to Centre Road consisted of a two lane undivided road. In order to enable Westall Road to serve as a high capacity alternative route to Springvale Road, the level crossing with the Cranbourne / Pakenham railway line was grade separated and Westall Road between Heatherton Road and Centre Road was upgraded to a six lane divided road. These works were completed by April 2001...

Unlike it's more popular cousins (Eastlink, Frankston Freeway and even the Dandenong Bypass) the Westall Road Extension did not (yet) have a series of caches to highlight this important arterial road.
This is cache located close to where the WREx crosses the Dandenong/Pakenham train line, this is one of the few North-South grade separated crossings, which means that the flow of traffic is not hindered by passing trains. Suggested parking is in the side-street adjacent to the cache, however take care with the truck-traffic that uses and parks on this part of the road.
The cache is a well camouflaged micro-tube, please take care with it and replace as intended.
