Geocache Description:

Knappogue Castle is one of many tourist attractions of the Shannon area, one of the abundant number of 15th century chieftain towers, just that this one did not get ruined in the 17th century and has been undergoing continuous "restoration" attempts ever since the 19th century.
This is a wheel chair accessible micro at the access route to the castle. You can stop to grab it at the roadside, a broader spot just meters away..

Warning & access advice

Knappogue castle no longer offers daytime tours and has very irregular opening times.
Castle interior doesn't need to be entered, BUT the demesne gate needs to be open to access either this P&G or the multi - no other legal way in.. As a rule of thumb, the gate is usually open until dusk in summer and early autumn months, and also on the days when an evening banquet is held. You don't need to partake on the banquet to be admitted to the demesne and access the caches. The demesne and walled garden is open for everyone, the castle interior just for the paying banquet guests.
*It is recommended to call Shannon Heritage (visit link) (the owner of the attraction) to find out if the demesne gate will be open on a particular day.*
