Wathall--Rural School Traditional Cache

1896--1914

In 1896 when the goverment opened this land for settlement, they set aside a quarter section of land every six miles to be used for schools. Every three miles there was a small plot set aside to build a school on.  The quarter section may or maynot have a school on it.  It was rented out to the local farmers to help pay the expences of the school system. Some of the school land has been sold the rest is still leased by local farmers

This woould have been a D-1.5 except for the fact that the high lines make it hard to get a good cords reading.  Every time we took a reading we got different numbers. We hope that these are close enough for you to find the cache.

The little red school house signs that mark the location of the rural schools are sponsered by the Retired Teachers Assoication with the help of donations from former teachers and students.

You can see the sign across the road.  We didn't place the cache at the sign because there is a electric fence about 2 feet south of it, didn't want to take the chance that someone might touch it since it is in tall grass.  Even being in tall grass it is still "HOT" voice of experience!!!
