Geocache Description:

Cache near the river Lerna

River Lerna

In classical Greece, Lerna was a region of springs and a former lake near the east coast of the Peloponnesos, south of Argos. Its site near the village Miloi at the Argolic Gulf is most famous as the lair of the Lernaean Hydra, the chthonic many-headed water snake, a creature of great antiquity when Heracles killed it, as the second of his labors..
Nowadays at the place where the river Lerna flows into the sea, near the village Miloi, there is a big concrete circle with numbers on it. It has been used as a compass and the Germans made it during the Second World War. They placed a canon in the middle of it in the direction of Nafplio to control the sea and the city. Next to it are the ruins of a bunker.
The river has clear crystal water and you can take a swim in the river as well as in the sea.

You can park your car at the beginning of the 200 meter long footpath to the river Lerna.
