El Rocío
El Rocío es una pequeña aldea del municipio de Almonte (Huelva), situada a 15 kilómetros de Matalascañas, a la que se accede por un camino que bordea el Parque Nacional de Doñana, dándole a ese camino unas vistas incomparables y una auténtica belleza.
Es una zona de casas pequeñas y blancas, de mucha tradición, toda ella rodeando la Ermita de la Virgen del Rocío, donde reside la Blanca Paloma, nombre que se le da a esta Virgen y de la que existen miles de devotos que semanalmente van a venerarla.
Sus singulares características urbanísticas y paisajísticas la convierten en un lugar único para vivir el fervor religioso hacia la Blanca Paloma y la placidez natural de Doñana. La vinculación romera vinculada al caballo ha configurado la aldea como paraje ideal para la práctica de actividades ecuestres, convirtiéndose en el principal referente de la Comarca en la organización de concursos hípicos.
Durante la Romería del Rocío, más de un millón de personas se acerca a este lugar en la provincia de Huelva para venerar a la Virgen, dándole un colorido espectacular a esta aldea. Una Virgen que, según reza la leyenda, se apareció aquí en el siglo XIII.
No sólo durante el tiempo de la Romería del Rocío el pueblo es de valor un viaje.

El Rocío liegt im Süden der Provinz Huelva, 45 km von der Stadt Huelva und 64 km von Sevilla entfernt.
Direkt neben dem Nationalpark Coto de Doñana in der südspanischen Provinz Huelva liegt der kleine Ort El Rocío. Weit über die spanischen Grenzen hinaus ist El Rocío als Wallfahrtsort bekannt, und zwar wird die “Virgen del Rocío”, die “Heilige Jungfrau von El Rocío” verehrt. Jedes Jahr zu Pfingsten erwartet der Ort mit 800 Einwohnern über eine Million Pilger. Sie reisen in Bruderschaften auf dem “Camino a El Rocío”, einem traditionell festgelegten Weg an. Am Pfingstsamstag kommen die Bruderschaften in El Rocío an, sie werden an der Ermita del Rocío, der Wallfahrtskirche begrüßt. Danach gehen sie zu ihren Häusern, die das restliche Jahr über leer stehen.
Nicht nur zu Pfingsten ist dieser Ort eine Reise wert. Passiert man das Ortseingangschild, dauert es nicht lange und man fühlt sich wie in Mexico. Sandstrassen überall, Reiter trotten an einem vorüber und Kutschen rollen gemächlich durch die Gassen.
Der Event am 29.09.2013 soll Ortskenner und Ortsfremde in dieses schöne Örtchen bringen. An den gelisteten Koordinaten gibt es die Möglichkeit sich zwischen 19.00 Uhr und 20.00 Uhr im Logbuch zu verewigen, Gegenstände zu tauschen und international zu fachsimpeln. Wer danach noch Lust und Zeit hat kann sich uns gerne zu einem gemeinsamen Abendessen anschließen (jeder auf seine Rechnung).

El Rocío
This town is located in the south of the province of Huelva, 45 km from the provincial capital and 64 km from Seville.
The El Rocío pilgrimage is the most famous in the region, attracting nearly a million people from across Andalucia and the entire country, and beyond. Every Andalucian city, town and village has its own pilgrimages, for its patron saint, virgin or other much-loved local figure. But the El Rocio has cult status, and is the most important and most colourful. It follows on from Semana Santa (March/April), and the various spring ferias, of which Seville's Feria de Abril (April) is the biggest.
This cult dates back to the 13th century, when a hunter from the village of Villamanrique (or Almonte, depending on which version of the story you follow) discovered a statue of the Virgin Mary in a tree trunk in the Doñana park. A chapel was built where the tree stood, and it became a place of pilgrimage. Devotion to this particular version of the Virgin was initially a local affair. Then, by the 17th century, hermandades(brotherhoods) were making the trip from nearby towns at Pentecost; by the 19th century, they came from all over Huelva, Cadiz and Seville, on a journey taking up to four days. Over the next century, the cult of the Virgin del Rocio became more and more widespread, and these days participants come from as far away as Barcelona and the Canary Islands - not to mention tourists who travel from abroad, around Europe and even further afield.
But it’s worth visiting all over the year not only for Semana Santa. As soon as you pass the edge oft he village you feel like in a western cowboy movie. Unsealed sandy streets, horseriding people trot along and horse buggies roll along at a leisurely pace.
The event on the 29th of September 2013 is for locals and visitors. At the given coordinates, between 19.00h and 20.00h you have the possibility to sign into the log book, swap TB’s, GC’s and to talk shop. Everyone who as the time and likes to talk more about Geocaching experiences can join us for dinner in a local restaurant (at his own expense).
