Let's gather again to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall with a potluck meet-n-greet, Saturday, September, 21st, from Noon til 3 pm at Locust (note change) picnic area, part of the Oak Flat PG. tealeaf is helping us with organizing and meet-and-great; fgfsumf is manning the grills, XRN is helping us host, and wer2ys4u is helping us with electronic cache downloads.
WHAT’S NEW: Note change in location! Pine Picnic Area has been closed to create a Trail Head. We’re moving next to Pine (Locust—turn right just before Pine Parking). Thanks to JPohaku, we have a new logo! RioNaiad is still trying to figure out how to add it to this space. DIRECTIONS: From Albuquerque, take I-40 east to the Tijeras exit and drive south on HWY 337 about 8.4 miles to Oak Flat Road at N 34 59.380, W 106 19.807. Head east on Oak Flat Rd about a mile to the Oak Flat picnic area. Just follow the signs to the Locust Group area, where the listed coordinates take you to the picnic site. Please see Waypoints below this listing for more assistance. This nice, private area includes lots of tables (several are shaded), 3 grills, 2-4 serving tables, with nearby bathrooms. CACHES: The 8 am cache release is below. wer2ys4u will bring paper copies for the after-lunch handout.
Below you will find three links for the caches that were placed for your enjoyment before the picnic. Two are PDF format files and the other is the GPX file. Just click for any or all to download the files. Once downloaded you can either A) Open the .gpx file in GSAK and load to your gps or B) Save the gpx file to your computer then open the directory of your gps (generally garmin)then open the folder GPX. Then copy the gpx file you just downloaded , and paste that file in the folder “GPX” of your gps.

ATTENDING THE EVENT: When logging "will attend," please indicate how many people will be in your group and what dish you will be bringing (see below). We will have the charcoal grills set up and ready to use by noon. If you want to help with the barbeque or bring equipment to use, we would be grateful for your assistance! SEP 14 UPDATE: Next to each item, below, is the pot luck number we have so far. We will need the following items for the potluck: Hamburger patties 5 + Chicken Skewers Hotdogs 3 Buns for above 4 Condiments 3 Side dishes (salads, beans, casseroles, etc) 11 Chips and Dips 3 Fruit, Watermelon, etc. 3 Dessert 5 Drinks (diet and reg), as well as water & cups, ice in ice-chests for drinks 5
