This cache can be found on Tioman island, located 32km off the Malaysian coast in the South China sea.
The island has an inland rainforest area of approximately 8300 hectares which is designated as a nature reserve. There are actually many species living within this rainforest that are endemic to Tioman island.
The sea around the island out to a distance of about 2km is designated as marine reserve. This is to protect the numerous coral reefs surrounding the islands and the diverse marine life that make them their home.
This of course makes for great snorkeling and diving :-)
The cache is hidden on the southern part of Juara Bay on the East coast of the island. It is a much quieter and more peaceful section of beach than the northern part. The beach is a great place to walk and relax and enjoy the stunning surroundings.
Behind the beach, near the cache is a turtle project, which is another very popular place for visitors to the island. It serves as a conservation and education centre and is a great place to visit to learn about the endangered turtles that come and nest on the island, to learn the problems and dangers they face, to understand why this beach is one of only three left that the turtles still nest on and to learn what we can all do to help.
Also near the cache is the trail head to a great jungle walk inland to a little waterfall with a small plunge pool that you can swim in. The hike takes about 2hr return and makes a nice break from the beach for a while.
You can reach Juara Bay from Tekek in two ways;
Taxis (4wd only) cost 60-70RM per car, or 30RM per person.
You can also take a great 2 hour jungle walk from Tekek
Have fun and happy caching.
Small note on cache maintenance: There is a local cache guardian. Name and contact info on file with geocaching.com.
