Com uma idade plistocénica (± 1,5 M.a.), este conglomerado é constituído por calhaus de rochas magmáticas (granitos e sienitos) e xistos, provenientes da região da Serra de Sintra e, ainda, por calhaus de basalto e de sílex com origem na zona de Lisboa.
A ocorrência destes calhaus nesta região da Península de Setúbal, tem sido utilizada como argumento para sustentar a teoria de que a foz do Rio Tejo, actualmente entre Almada e Lisboa, é posterior à idade deste conglomerado; ou seja, anteriormente, o rio teria uma desombocadura localizada bem mais a sul do que a posição actual, provavelmente nas proximidades da Lagoa de Albufeira.

With a Pleistocene age (± 1.5 Ma), the conglomerate consists of pebbles of igneous rocks (granites and syenites) and shales, from the Serra de Sintra region and also by pebbles of basalt and flint originating in Lisbon area.
The occurrence of these pebbles in this region of the Setubal Peninsula, has been used as an argument to support the theory that the mouth of the River Tagus, currently between Almada and Lisbon, is later than the age of this conglomerate; ie previously, the river would have one desombocadura well located further south than the current position, probably near the Lagoa de Albufeira.
