When you think about the Burren you immediately think of the limestone pavement but in fact there are varied landscapes that make up this 560 sq km region. On this looped walk you will experience:
- the scenic Caher valley surrounded by limestone covered hills
- clear streams
- beautiful flora and fauna (different depending on the season you choose to visit)
- Burren farmland
- Atlantic Ocean views
The Caher River is the only waterway in the Burren that flows its entire course above ground. All other waterways in the Burren disappear at least in parts underground. The river drops 60 metres over 2 kilometres and is popular when in flood with canoe and kayak enthusiasts.
Over 90% of the Burren is privately farmed land. On this walk you will pass through an area of farmland and should watch for livestock. There is no need to cross drystone walls. Please use the stiles and where one is not provided please leave the gates as you found them. The walk combining all 5 caches is ca. 10 km. To download the GPX file of the route click here.
Waterproof walking shoes/boots are recommended. The path can be quite muddy in some places. Water and wind proof jacket is also recommended as the Atlantic coastline is quite exposed.
We hope you enjoy this looped walk.
This cache is a PET preform container.
