This is one of the more recently closed pubs of Stockport, And a very sad loss at that, renowned for it's ability to bring some great bands to Stockport. 74 Churchgate/ Lavender Brow It is quite possible that a house has stood on this site since the 1620s, but the first mention of the Thatched house was in 1774, when James Briscall, a physician, came to Stockport. Seeing the suffering of the poor, He rented a room in the cellar of the inn and began to treat those he could, At his own expense. This first Dispensary later moved to Daw Bank and became the forerunner to Stockport Infirmary, Which opened in July 1833 on Wellington Road South. The original thatched roof was removed in the 1860s and the Inn re-built by Showell's in 1897. It has been closed and reopened a few times in the last 10 years, but is in need of much TLC.
