Geocache Description:

A walk in Mount Hope Farm will bring you to a small marker in the woods of great historical significance.

This stone memorial deep in the woods of Mount Hope Farm denotes a nearby spot where King Philip (aka Metacomet) was killed on August 12th, 1676. The marker was placed in 1877 and some the engraved letters have begun to wear off, but it still stands. There are pictures of it online as well. Some of you may recall finding a Downy288 RIclimber cache here a few years ago. In fact it was our 100th find way back in September of 2007, so this may be a return visit to some of you seasoned veterans.

You're looking for a small decon container. It is not located at the memorial but rather about 75 feet away. There is a well between the memorial and the cache that you do not have to touch. Enjoy your walk out and please replace as found so it's not completely visible.

To read about the inscription on the marker, you can visit this website: http://www.hmdb.org/marker.asp?marker=37597
