Geocache Description:

We would like to show you a well (=kuyu) in the hills behind Içmeler. It seems to be a lost place, but maybe the goatherds use it or it provides spring water to Içmeler.



To reach the well start from the inland in the old part of Içmeler and walk on the goat path towards Turunç as described in our cache keçi yolu 2 (GC32WDY):
Go to Turgut Özal Cadessi, the path is beginning behind a wall (waypoint 01: start Icmeler). Its course – marked with red, white and green waymarking and rock cairns – is clearly visible along the whole distance. Please turn back and check the way, as soon as you don't find any waymarks. (There are a lot of unmarked sideways.) This trail from Içmeler to Turunç is a part of the long distance walking path named Karia Yolu.

On the way you can enjoy beautiful views of the bays of Içmeler and Marmaris.

The well and the hiding place are both on the right side of the trail. We have hidden the cache box some meters before the well, we hope that no nosy (goat) muggle will discover it there. The hiding place is approx. 130 m above sea level.

After finding the cache you have the following choices:
  • Return and walk back on the same route.
  • Try out one of the sidesways which starts near the well and guides you down to Içmeler's beach. We have not gone them until now, so it would be great if you could tell us your experiences (and provide us the gpx-file).
  • Follow the trail towards Turunç and search for keçi yolu 2 (we would suggest smiley).
Please carry enough water on hot weather and don’t forget sun protection. We recommend to wear sturdy shoes and long-sleeved clothing. The walk is 1,3 km long (one way from the old part of Içmeler to the hiding place) and the altitude difference is approx. 150 m. It is completely shown in Open Street Maps.
During our absence in Turkey the maintenance of this cache is done by a friend living in Turunç.
