Zapotrzebowanie na materiały budowlane spowodowało podjęcie decyzji budowy w Augustowie przedsiębiorstwa produkującego bloczki wapienno-piaskowe. Realizację wspomnianej inwestycji rozpoczęto w 1969 roku na terenie rozgraniczającym J.Białe od jeziora Sajno. Na wytyczonym terenie pod budowę zakładu jak i kopalni piasku, gdyż surowiec do produkcji zamierzano pozyskiwać na miejscu, wycięto kilkanaście ha lasu. W 1971 roku mieszkańcy Augustowa oraz organizacje powiązane z ochroną środowiska sprzeciwiło się otwarciu wspomnianego zakładu. Argumentem protestu oraz obawą przed funkcjonowaniem zakładu była możliwość wytwarzania nadmiernej ilości pyłów wapiennych, które przyczyniłyby się do degradacji środowiska. Ponadto twierdzono iż uruchomienie kopalni w pobliżu jezior doprowadzi do zaburzenia stosunków wodnych. Pod wpływem protestów we wrześniu wiceminister podjął decyzję o ograniczeniu wycinki lasu na potrzeby kopalni do 30 ha i zapewnił, że nowo wybudowany zakład będzie spełniał normy emisji szkodliwych pyłów. W roku 1972 augustowskie „silikaty” uruchomiły produkcję. Zakład dynamicznie rozwijał się, osiągając w latach osiemdziesiątych zdolność produkcyjną ok. 50 milionów jednostek ceramicznych rocznie przy zatrudnieniu 120 osób.

The demand for building materials resulted in the decision to build a company producing lime-sand blocks in Augustów. The implementation of the aforementioned investment began in 1969 in the area separating Lake Biała from Lake Sajno. On the marked out area for the construction of the plant and the sand mine, as the raw material for production was to be obtained on site, several hectares of forest were cut down. In 1971, the inhabitants of Augustów and organizations associated with environmental protection opposed the opening of the plant. The argument for the protest and the fear of the operation of the plant was the possibility of producing excessive amounts of lime dust, which would contribute to the degradation of the environment. In addition, it was claimed that the launch of the mine near the lakes would lead to disturbances in water conditions. In September, under the influence of the protests, the deputy minister decided to limit the logging of the forest for the mine to 30 hectares and ensured that the newly built plant would meet the emission standards for harmful dust. In 1972 Augustów's "silicates" started production. The plant developed dynamically, reaching a production capacity of approximately 50 million ceramic units per year in the 1980s, employing 120 people.
