St. Elijah church is located on the edge of the ridge, on the place known as Ilinica, just above the village Žvinje, on the border between Croatia and Montenegro. Church carries the name of the Saint Elijah The Thunderer and once a year, on St. Elijah`s Day, 2. August according to Gregorian calendar, locals here organize an event in his honor. Next to the church is monument to the French soldiers, fallen in the time when Napoleon ruled over this area. According to legend, they have been buried here so they could always look towards their fatherland, across the sea. This viewpoint offers the breathtaking view on the both countries.
Following the uphill, zigzag road to village Žvinje and continuing through beautiful, untamed nature, you can easily find this location, by car or by foot. Happy hunting
The uphill road is quite slant, and at times really bumpy, so I suggest leaving your car and continuing by foot at some point. It gets worse around the area where the line of houses end and the road continues through the forest , so drive carefully :) Please be extra careful about snakes guys! They appear very often around this area!
