This cache is located in Stoneler Road Park in Tallahassee off Capital Circle NW. Amenities include a picnic shelter, a little league field, a playground, and a basketball-hoop area. The park is mostly surrounded by a thickly forested area, although it is within walking distance of a couple of neighborhoods.
Research shows the 11.4 acres of land was acquired from Leila Walden on January 19, 1973. Originally, the property was used as a landfill, but in 1981, Leon County discontinued using the land for that purpose. The land lay dormant for a number of years before the original park was built in 1997-1998. When it was first constructed, the park included a playground and a baseball field, but the field did not have lights and the sod on the field was Bahia.
During this time there were not many lighted fields in the area to offer the capacity for both fall baseball and football to be played at the same time. In December 2006, Leon County Parks and Recreation proposed a complete renovation to the park along with installing a lighted field.
In early 2007, the Leon County Parks and Recreation Division renovated the field by re-grading the entire field, reconstructing the infield, re-sodding the outfield with Bermuda sod, replacing the irrigation system, and installing new fencing and backstop. At this time they also installed lights so games could be played in the evenings.
During 2013, the playground has been renovated, and a new concession building is being constructed. Additionally, there are plans to include a restroom facility in lieu of the existing port-a-let.
