X-Men U-Night Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Stonagal: It looks like I forgot to post my "warning: this cache will be archived at an undetermined point in the near future so get it while you can" note for this one. Sorry to anyone who was planning to find this one and didn't realize their time was short. Anyway I picked up the cache and all the white and red reflectors with it. Interesting that the final two "rings" around the tree at the end were now just reflective pieces held by the wood staples.

A final thank you to railmelterwpg, who secured my reflectors with wood staples, put up his own red reflectors to mark the exit route, and made the final container more secure at a later date. All three of those contributions made the night cache experience better.

Geocache Description:

CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES.  This is a night cache.  You will need a regular flashlight to find this cache.  Follow the trail to the container.  Round-trip walking distance is about 1 km and can be completed in less than 20 minutes (in the summer).  In winter you will need tall snow boots or snowshoes.  In spring the trail could be quite wet.

Begin at the posted coordinates.  Walk and point your flashlight south down the trail and locate the first piece of reflective tape.  Do likewise to find the next piece, and so on until you come to a tree with two reflective bands around it.  Once here, scan the area to locate the X, which marks the cache’s location. (The container has been prone to falling down over time. If that is the case, look for the reflector off the path and search the ground at that location.)

Aside from the name, this cache has nothing to do with comic books or mutants.  It was selected because of the pun in the name, and because SiaFhir can’t finish the Unknown Alphaghetti challenge unless someone else publishes an unknown cache beginning with the letter X.

A travel bug awaits the first finder (railmelterwpg - and in the middle of a bright sunny day too!).  Bring your own writing utensil.

(August 2013) A big thank you to railmelterwpg for giving the reflectors some needed permanence, and for installing some for the return hike! (October 2014) An even bigger thank you for re-setting the container and adding a "backup" reflector in case the container falls again!

Congratulations to xaussie for finding your very first geocache!
