This is a man made lake within a mile of my old homestead (as the crow flies). My family owned an amusement park on this lake way back in the early 1900s and I am unable to find any information on it. If anyone knows anything about this, please feel free to post information in your log. I am not even sure of where it was located on the lake, I only know it was on the lake.
Lake Moraine is a beautiful lake and I wanted people to see just why I loved growing up in the Hamilton/Madison area. My family owned much of the hill that is between Hamilton and Madison at one point in history, but it has been reduced to less than an acre of land now. While in the area, GPS JohnnyCake Hill Road and drive to the top and just be amazed by the view. You have to drive the whole length of the road to appreciate its beauty. When I was just a kid, you could drive the entire road and only pass about 8 or 9 houses total. Times sure have changed things. One acre of land now sells for almost 10 times what we sold the entire homestead for back in the late 60s and early 70s. I believe that this lake was built to feed the Chenango Canal. There a few caches along the historic canal so be sure to find them.
This cache is hidden at our favorite swimming hole when we were growing up. We would ride bicycle down the hill just to get cooled off on those hot summer days. Problem was riding back up the hill afterwords, made the whole thing hysterically pointless when I look back upon it.
