Geocache Description:

Amanda Makes You Walk (AMYW) is a series of caches designed to get you walking out and about in Alice Springs.

***PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN***

This cache is located just over 3km along Section 1 of the world famous Larapinta Trail. The Larapinta Trail is 223km long and consists of 12 stages, stretching from Alice Springs to Mount Sonder, the fourth highest mountain in central Australia.

Section 1 of the Trail starts at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station and extends west for 23.9km to Simpsons Gap. Look for the Larapinta Trail shelter on the left as you drive into the Telegraph Station. This is where the walk starts from.

ALTERNATIVELY:

You can also access this section of the Trail from the Old Stuart Highway – just look for the big ‘Welcome to Alice Springs’ sign on the (new/real) north Stuart Highway, stop and do the two caches near the sign, then follow the dirt road near the sign into the Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve. Travel north along the bumpy old highway for a few hundred metres and then park at the Larapinta Trail Sign and walk in from there.

This cache gives you some spectacular views of the MacDonnell Ranges, and is particularly recommended for photographs in the late afternoon. The cache itself is a mini-decon container, with a log and room for pathtag-sized swaps.
