Geocache Description:

This cache is not available in the months of May and June because of duck-shooting season. The co-ordinates given are not at the geozone. To find this cache you are going to have to solve a small crossword puzzle.

Well, a kid lost their bag in Awaiti wetlands and we believe it was very close to S37 55.QSS E176 48.CBD It has since gone missing but a regular sized greenish plastic container has replaced it now. We would appreciate you finding that, and if you do please sign on his homework page in it (log), and leave it as you found it (you may swap any of his treasures/rubbish in it, of course).

The Awaiti freshwater wetland is one of the largest single areas remaining of the original Rangitaiki Plains wetlands. Because of its size, Awaiti is of considerable importance for the conservation of regional water bird populations. Indigenous species of note which can be found in the reserve include: Australasian bittern, spotless crake and New Zealand dabchick. Awaiti is an ancestral place that is of importance to hapu of both Ngati Awa and Ngati Tuwharetoa (BOP). Restoration and enhancement of Awaiti wetland is being undertaken by Department of Conservation and Fish & Game New Zealand with support from Environment Bay of Plenty.
