This cache is located just over 4km along Section 1 of the world famous Larapinta Trail. The Larapinta Trail is 223km long and consists of 12 stages, stretching from Alice Springs to Mount Sonder, the fourth highest mountain in central Australia.
Section 1 of the Trail starts at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station and extends west for 23.9km to Simpsons Gap. Look for the Larapinta Trail shelter on the left as you drive into the Telegraph Station. This is where the walk starts from.

You can also access this section of the Trail from the Old Stuart Highway – just look for the big ‘Welcome to Alice Springs’ sign on the (new/real) Stuart Highway, stop and do the two caches near the sign, then follow the dirt road near the sign into the Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve. Travel north along the bumpy old highway for a few hundred metres and then park at the Larapinta Trail Sign and walk in.
This cache gives is located right near a lovely shady bower over the track formed by a Mulga (Acacia aneura) and Fork-Leafed Corkwood (Hakea eyreana). Stop and take a look at the fabulous bark of the Corkwood Tree. The cache itself is a mini-decon container, with a log and room for pathtag-sized swaps.
