A Church Micro at St.Mary Magdalene,South Molton.
A large fine Grade 1 listed building, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, it is situated just off the town centre, tucked away behind the main shopping street. The earliest part of the church are the side walls of the chancel which are very thick and believed to be about 800 years old. The remainder has largely 15th century origins, but was extensively restored in the 19th century, the aisles being widened in 1825, and the nave heightened in 1865. The interior is spacious and uniform, the pulpit and font being good examples of 15th century stone carving. The Victorian and later stained glass in 19 of the windows contributes most of the colour, whilst a scatter of monuments relieves the starkness of the walls. £1 for the FTF.(The Wandering Foxes) This is my most urban cache, stealth is required! There is free parking around the square and along the main street in South Molton. Cache is a 35mm film case...
