This is the fourth in a series of caches in and around any kind of venue where a form of golf can be played.
You are looking for a clipbox container with only a log book (no pen) and room for trackables.
In the early 1970’s the opportunity was taken by Rushmoor Borough Council to make use of the land near Cove Brook. Construction works commenced and the Southwood Golf Course was opened in 1977 as a 9-hole pay as you play course. Bob Hammond was appointed golf professional and about two years later Southwood Golf Club was formed together with the provision of the clubhouse and professional shop. The 9-hole course proved a great success. The opportunity then arose for Rushmoor BC to purchase the land on the other side of the road from the Clubhouse to construct 14 new holes so as to create an 18-hole course. Charles Hawtree and Son were appointed golf course architects and Golf Landscapes Ltd undertook the construction works. In keeping with local events that took place at the adjacent Farnborough Air Field the holes were named after famous connections, i.e. Sir Frank Whittle (inventor of the first jet aeroplane), Concorde, Harrier etc. The course opened in 1988 and a celebrity golf event marked the occasion with Terry Scott and James Bolam hitting the first balls. Shortly afterwards saw the first Hampshire Golf PGA Pro-Am competition take place. The Southwood Golf Club celebrated its 21st birthday in 1999 and held the Bob Hammond Texas Scramble, now a very successful and established fixture, to commemorate the day.
