Driving down the South Rd, this is a must stop location to soak up some Central Australian history. Can be completed in a 2WD but 4WD would be more suitable. Can be unpassable in wet weather.
Rodinga (Aboriginal for foot or road) was one of the original settlers' camps established during the extension of the Old Ghan Railway to Alice Springs in the 1920s. Go back in time and imagine being one of the workers here who completed continual track maintenance in conditions that were unrelentingly harsh on the settlers. In summer, temeratures peaked in the high 40s - in winter, overnight temperatures plummeted below zero.
