Geocache Description:

This is the first of a series of caches of historical places and buildings of the south. The Alberton North Old Town Hall

Building work started in 1938 on the new town hall on the corner of Gerrit Maritz street and van Riebeeck avenue. All the street names in the area were also renamed in 1938 as part of the 100 year celebrations to commemorate the “Great Trek” of 1838. The streets in the area were named after “Voortrekker” heros.

The Town Hall used to be white with a green roof as seen in the picture below taken in 2008. Lately it was painted a dirty yellow colour. Who knows why!

The hall is now being used as office space for the municipality and the court next door.

The cache is a camouflaged micro. This used to be the centre of town so be very aware of muggles and use stealth. During business hours there are car guards very close to the cache. Be creative to distract him/them, remember, they are there for the money, nothing else.
