SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN CENTRAL Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Georick402: Removing this one from the game. It appears as if muggles have been hanging out at GZ. Enjoyed reading the logs over the years, especially the one about a rattle snake near GZ.

Geocache Description:

This will be a series of traditional caches on Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, MD. The description below will start off about the cache itself, and then include info on the mountain.

There are some jiffy johns near the begining of this parking lot. Also, near the jiffy johns is a location to pick up some trail maps, a place of shade and picnic tables. It's about a 25 minute walk from parking to the cache. You'll be walking the blue trail which will start off pretty level and flat. When you come to the red trail, stay to the left, and continue on the blue trail. The red trail will take you to the top of the mountain if you want to go there, but for this cache, you'll continue on the blue trail.  Once you pass the red trail, the blue trail will become rocky and steep. You'll come to the white trail, and you'll want to go to the left and stay on the blue & white trail. Stay on that until they split up, then go to the right and stay on the blue trail You'll finish your hike off with a steep climb. The cache will be 65 feet off the trail. You'll be looking for a black cache about the size of a medium size pill bottle. FTF gets a dollar bill. Just a log book, so BYOP. See pictures and hint for help.

This is 1 of 6 caches scattered across Sugarloaf Mountain with the names being: SM North, SM South, SM East, SM West and SM Central. They will range in size from a micro to regular. The terrain rating will vary depending on the cache you go after. Attempting all 5 caches at one time will require close to 10 miles of hiking. All caches will have hints and photo's to help out with the find. I’ll list what parking cords I think are best for each cache, but as you do your research, you may find something better. I have 3 links here about the mountain and it's regulations.

Sugarloaf Mountain opens up at 8:00 AM and closes 1 hour before sunset, every day. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash at all times. There are some jiffy johns, located near some of the trail heads, but not all of them. Also, in some spots, there will be places where you can grab a map of all of the trails along Sugarloaf Mountain. I suggest you take one, or download one from the first link above. This area is habitat of the timber rattler snake and the copperhead. Bring plenty of water, sun screen and bug spray. As always, have fun and BE SAFE!!!
