Commonly referred to as Eucalyptus Trees they are actually Tasmanian Blue Gum. Brought to the West Coast of the United States for use as fast growing trees, capable of draining marshlands. The Gum trees tend to twist as they grow, which rendered the wood less useful for timer or railroad ties.
Known to explode when they are heated sufficiently by forest fire, but also capable of recovery as well as taking advantage of burned undergrowth the Gum tree can easily outcompete most native trees of California.
