Somerset was founded in 1795 by Harmon Husband who fled North Carolina after having a bounty placed on his head for protesting taxes and injustice in the court system.
Somerset is known for being rich in agriculture and mining.
Somerset was thrust into national media when United Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pa on Sept. 11,2001 and again in July of 2002 when nine miners were trapped underground and rescued 3 days later at the Quecreek Mine site.
