There are many paths in Hitchin, some of which date back to medieval times. This cache is placed on part of the Folly Path which was a field path leading to the water meadows between Hitchin and St Ipollyts. Regretably the outer part of this path has been obliterated by development, leading to a blind alley where the cache is to be found. On the other side of the 1960's development one can pick up the path again for a short distance on Blackhorse Lane. The water meadows were enclosed in the mid 19th century, and planted with alder trees to provide coppiced wood for the gunpowder industry. This area is now private woodland and stretches along the St Ipollyts Brook from the Stevenage Road to St Ipollyts.
The cache contains a log only, so bring a writing implement. You may need tweezers to extract the log. As the GZ is overlooked, and the path is in frequent use, some stealth is needed. The path is well surfaced, and therefore it can be accessed by strollers and wheelchairs, although with the height it may be difficult to reach for wheelchair users. Please replace as found. Plenty of parking around.
