Placed just below the 7201' summit of Mount Pugh! While the top once had a fire lookout (see GC1X25W), nothing remains but the foundation. The spectacular 360-degree view is just as good, though!

Highlights of the panorama include Glacier Peak to the east, Sloan Peak to the south, and White Chuck Mountain to the north.

Gaining 5300' in 5.5mi, the trail to the top isn't easy. There is also some scrambling up a cliff face where a tram used to carry supplies to the lookout. The trailhead can be found on FS RD 2095. Follow the trail steeply up the mountain, passing Lake Metan in just under 2 mi. From the lake, the trail continues up to the narrow cleft known as Stujack Pass (elev. 5750').
From the pass, the trail heads east and ascends steep heather slopes to the crest of a long narrow ridge (elev. 6200'). Follow the top of this ridge, dropping down onto the south side when it gets too narrow. This section can be dangerous when snowy.
At the end of the ridge reach the final scramble. It's really much simpler than it looks, and the route is easy to find. Beyond this section, a nice trail resumes and the summit is soon gained.

Because the summit itself is in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, the cache is along the trail 200 vertical feet from the top.
Happy Hunting!
