Alla sönerna hde namn med efterledet -sten. Detta var en ganska vanlig princip vid namngivning under vikingatiden. Bjursten förekommer inte i någon annan inskrift, biorr betyder bäver. Stenen hittades vid täckdikning på gården 1871, tyvärr hade man redan sprängt stenen i fyra delar när man upptäckte runorna.

All the sons hde name ending in -sten (stone). This was quite a common principle for naming during the Viking Age. The name Bjursten does not occur in any other inscription, "biorr" means beaver. The stone was found durig a drainage work at the farm in 1871, unfortunately, the workers had already blasted the rock into quarters when the runes were discovered .
