Orcas Island has a deep history in fruit farming. The first crops were Plums, followed by Pears and Apples. By 1900 there were over 20,000 fruit trees on the island!
Eastsound was more of an orchard than a town. The town of Olga grew Gravenstien apples. Most people on the island made their livelihood in growing and processing fruit.
It is not surprising to find old forgotten orchard trees in the forests, on Orcas.
