Now that the weather is warming up it’s time to dust off those walking boots and once again hit the trails with your fellow geocachers for this year’s spring walking event. All geocachers are welcome to attend even if you are not a member of Geocaching NSW.
The Walk
This begins at the southern end of the park at Bondi Beach, (see additional WPs for the meeting spot), then follows the spectacular cliff top coastal track to Grant Reserve at Coogee for a Meet’n’Greet activity. The walk features stunning views of the ocean, beaches, parks, cliffs, bays and rock pools. A board walk takes you past Waverley Cemetery, the most scenic burial ground in the world. We intend to start the walk at 9am sharp so we can make it to Coogee in time for lunch.
Total distance for the walk is approximately 6km. It is not a difficult walk, however, there are sections with medium gradient paths and several staircases with occasional seating to have a rest.
We expect the walk to take about 3 hours with stops along the way to take in the views, have rests and refreshments and perhaps find a cache or two. The walk is suitable for children, however, we will leave it up to you to decide if it is OK for them to come along.
We highly recommend you wear comfy shoes, a hat and sunscreen and bring plenty to drink. Water bottles can be refilled at a station just near the Waverley Cemetery. A trekking pole may be a helpful accessory.
We would also suggest you car shuffle or organise a lift with someone who can take you back to your car after the event. Please visit the Geocaching NSW forums to organise car shuffles.
Meet’n’Greet
If you are not coming for the walk, that's OK, you are more than welcome to join us at Grant Reserve, Coogee. Just meet at the posted co-ordinates from around 11am onwards and look for the Geocaching NSW banner for where we have set up. We expect the walkers to arrive around 12pm.
It is a BYO everything event. There are free electric BBQs available as well as some picnic tables. It would probably be a good idea to bring along your folding chair. If you wish to purchase takeaway food, coffee, ice creams, etc, this can be done at the nearby kiosk at Wylies Baths. Untimed parking is available in Neptune St. Just remember to park rear to kerb!
Public Transport Information
Trains will get you to Bondi Junction then catch Bus 380, 381 or 382 to Bondi Beach. After the walk, Bus 353 will take you from Coogee Beach back to Bondi Junction. Visit www.131500.com.au for more options.
Please post a “Will Attend” log to make sure you receive any announcements that we may make before the day.
We hope you can come along and enjoy a spectacular day of geocaching friendship.
Cheers,
Geocaching NSW Committee
