This cache is placed by some of the base’s crew and is known to all members of the base. The base itself is within a restricted area however the cache is not in any restricted areas so you don’t need to worry about trespassing.
Air Ambulance base Kirkenes is staffed with 10 pilots, 5 captains and 5 first officers including 8 flight nurses with either intensive care or anesthesia specialization. At all times the aircraft at the base is manned with two pilots and one nurse. The airplane and its crew is on a 24/7 standby for any medical emergency in northern Norway with a response time of 20 minutes, meaning the aircraft shall be airborne 20 minutes after a medical mission is received.
The pilots works a schedule of either 7 days or 7 nights in a row and most live in other parts of Norway traveling to Kirkenes to work. Because of this we try to make a nice place for recreational activities while not on duty and you might see both our Jacuzzi and Grill hut, if not covered by snow.
The nurses work up to five days or nights in a row. Some only work here at the Air Ambulance base, while some work 50% here at the base and 50% at the hospital In Kirkenes.
The base is equipped with a Beechcraft King Air 200 specially customized for ambulance missions, and if we’re not on a mission, you can see it through the windows in the hangar to the left close to the cache. It has the same color as this cache.
