This is the site of the first logging in the valley by the newly formed Port McNeill Division of MacMillan Bloedel in 1973. Due to the cost of travel time, (a new thing back then), this site was chosen as the new camp site for the Port Hardy Division. At the last moment, the site now occupied by the Broughton Straits Campsite became the new camp location and all of the Port Hardy bunkhouses and cookhouse were moved to their new location. The office was moved to its existing site behind the burl, and a new shop, log dump, and dryland sort were also built.
