Maligne lake is located on the Sturgeon-Weir River, a historic canoe route travelled by most of the great explorers of the Canadian Northwest. The Sturgeon-Weir river is on the list of canoe routes recommended by Parks, Culture and Sport of the Saskatchewan Government. This area is also noted for having great fishing and attracts people from many places every year.
