Riding the Line Traditional Cache

The term comes from the job of riding the property line and, later, the fence line. These were cowboys who lived on the range in dugout camps, which were close to the cattle, with the goal of keeping the cattle from straying. In winter months, out-of-work cowboys would “ride the line” from camp to camp, always receiving a meal or shelter from fellow cowboys.

Chemin-A-Haut State Park is situated on a high bluff overlooking Bayou Bartholomew and is a natural paradise for lovers of unspoiled beauty. This 503-acre park has walking/bike & horse trails. The park is adding new trails that will take you thought the Hardwood forest along Bayou Bartholomew.

Boat rental are Available April 1 through September 30.Hours of Operation: Site is open daily. Gates open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and at 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and days preceding holidays. April-September, entrance station is open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; October-March, entrance station is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance Fees: $2 per person; Free for Seniors (62 and older) and children age 3 and under free.
