An equinox is a period in the orbit of a planet in which the planet's orbit and position cause the Sun to pass directly over the equator and it marks a shift in seasons. When the equinox occurs, the Sun is directly over the celestial equator, which means that someone standing at the equator would be able to see the Sun immediately overhead. It also means that half of the planet is fully illuminated, and that day and night are of roughly equal length.

While the exact time for the equinox in Dunedin this year is 23 Sep at 8.44am, the Sunday may be a better time to get some nice pictures of the sunrise without having to rush off, have a chat with others and get some hints for those frustrating caches, and maybe even get together for a whole day of caching!
Event going ahead in any weather, so come prepared as there is not much shelter unless you fancy hiding under tooth roots.
If you are coming from out of own, why not make it into a weekend and consider other activities - The Port Chalmers Seafood Festival is on the day before.
The inspiration for this event comes from Pprime who has been running a whole series of dawn mob events successfully in Brisbane - if they can do it, so can we!
The difficulty rating reflects the time of day - if you do not usually get up this time of the day, just think: when was it the last time you did something for the first time, or differently?
