We set out to create a “Hobbit” themed series of caches, (because the hobby/sport just wasn’t nerdy enough – right?). This series will challenge your Geocaching stamina. The round trip is nearly 6.5 miles of paddling. You will be in and out of your vessel several times. You will encounter briars, poison ivy, stingy nettles, bugs and creepy crawly things, mud and muck, tree roots, and all the other hazards that go along with water caching. Dark places and beyond. Coordinates in creek banks can be tricky sometimes so please let us know if you encounter them to be way off. Most of the caches are in logical spots, depending on your definition of logical. Have fun, we had a great time creating this series. We paddle here at least once a season and you never know what you will encounter. There are owls where you least expect them, furry critters that swim, slide, stare at you in disbelief, bolt from you and startle you. Avian flyers of all types., and oh did we mention bugs? Sounds like the perfect Hobbit environment!
"SMAUG"
The great dragon who lives in the Lonely Mountain. Years ago, Smaug heard of the treasure that the dwarves had amassed in the mountain under Thror’s reign, and he drove them away to claim the gold for himself. His flaming breath can scorch a city, his huge wings can carry him great distances, and his armor like hide is almost impenetrable. Smaug can speak and possesses a dark, sardonic sense of humor.
"My armour is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!"
