Starting in Michelau (220 m), the hike opens with a magnificent view of Bourscheid Castle, a 13th-century fortress perched high above the valley. From there, the route climbs steadily up to Burden (400 m). Only then does the true highlight of the tour begin: the descent back to Michelau along narrow woodland paths and stone steps that make the return journey just as exciting as the ascent.
Along the way, you are treated to breathtaking views of the romantic Sûre Valley and the rugged, mountainous landscape of the Oesling. At one point, the trail even takes you roughly a hundred meters above the longest tunnel of the northern railway line—the Burden Tunnel, built in 1866 and stretching 600 meters in length.
Yet the real centerpiece of the hike is the Scharflee. This striking, elongated rock formation rises like a natural wall, sculpted over time by wind and weather. The name Scharflee means “sharp rock,” and standing before it, the origin of the name becomes immediately clear. It is a must-see for adventurers and nature lovers alike—an unforgettable encounter with the raw beauty of the landscape.

Au départ de Michelau (220 m), la randonnée débute par une vue magnifique sur le château de Bourscheid, impressionnante forteresse du XIIIᵉ siècle dominant la vallée. Le sentier monte ensuite régulièrement jusqu’à Burden (400 m). C’est à partir de là que commence le véritable point fort du parcours : la descente vers Michelau par de petits chemins sinueux et quelques escaliers, qui rendent le retour aussi passionnant que la montée.
Tout au long du trajet, vous profiterez de superbes panoramas sur la vallée romantique de la Sûre ainsi que sur le paysage montagneux de l’Oesling. À un endroit précis, le chemin passe à près de cent mètres au-dessus du plus long tunnel de la ligne ferroviaire du nord : le tunnel de Burden, construit en 1866 et long de 600 mètres.
Mais l’attraction principale de la randonnée reste la Scharflee. Cette impressionnante formation rocheuse, longue et étroite, s’élève comme un mur naturel façonné par le vent et le temps. Scharflee signifie « roche tranchante », un nom qui prend tout son sens une fois sur place. Un site incontournable pour tous les amateurs d’aventure et de nature.

Die Wanderung beginnt in Michelau (220 m) mit einem herrlichen Blick auf die Burg Bourscheid, eine imposante Festung aus dem 13. Jahrhundert hoch über dem Tal. Von dort führt der Weg stetig hinauf nach Burden (400 m). Erst hier beginnt der eigentliche Höhepunkt der Tour: der Abstieg zurück nach Michelau über schmale Pfade und einige Treppen, die den Rückweg besonders abwechslungsreich machen.
Unterwegs eröffnen sich beeindruckende Ausblicke auf das romantische Sauertal sowie auf die raue, bergige Landschaft des Öslings. An einer Stelle steht man rund hundert Meter über dem längsten Tunnel der nördlichen Eisenbahnlinie – dem Burdener Tunnel, der 1866 erbaut wurde und 600 Meter lang ist.
Das eigentliche Herzstück der Wanderung ist jedoch die Scharflee. Diese markante, langgezogene Felsformation ragt wie eine natürliche Mauer aus der Landschaft heraus und wurde über Jahrhunderte von Wind und Wetter geformt. Der Name Scharflee bedeutet „scharfer Fels“ – und vor Ort versteht man sofort, warum. Ein absolutes Muss für Abenteurer und Naturliebhaber.
