Geocache Description:

Near this cache is a 3' by 3' spring lined with rocks. I suspect it was hand dug to provide water for the miners. Old building remains can be found. Another "wacky things you can do with PVC piping" cache.

It is recommended that you park at the listed parking coordinates (Rte. 15 and Compton Goble Rd.). 4-wheel drive vehicles can drive down Compton Goble Rd. to all trails. Trails are not marked. Care should be taken during hunting season.

In 2012 this 835 acre property, previously known as the Baker/Firestone Tract was preserved by the Trust for Public Land. The State of New Jersey was conveyed 647 acres as an addition to the Rockaway River Wildlife Management Area and 188 acres was conveyed to Jefferson Township for municipal recreation and conservation purposes. This site is located in the Highlands Preservation Area and contains environmentally sensitive wetland areas. It is the habitat for many state and federally listed species including the Bobcat, Golden-winged warbler, Timber rattlesnake, Red-shouldered hawk, Indiana bat, Cooper's hawk and Barred owl. Compton Goble Rd. is a dirt which traverses the property for two miles and provides access to numerous trails.

Congratulations to cuteynewt. FTF
