BQDC Fairgrounds Barn Quilts Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

brussels2: Looks like someone needed a nano container more than my cache did. But it had a good 10 year run.

Geocache Description:

This is a nano placed within the grounds of John Miles County Park (aka: the County Fair Grounds).

The park is only open from about mid-April (depending on the winter) thru mid-October.

Coordinates N44 50.744 W087 21.550 will take you to a spot on your way to the actual cache where you can view all the quilts at once (as long as the county doesn’t rent out the magic spot for “storage pod” parking).

Parking is available with wheelchair access at N44 50.660 W087 21.610. The parking area and the route to the viewing area is hard-packed gravel so we hope it is acceptable for wheelchairs.

The final cache location is not wheelchair accessible.

Since this is a nano cache, please only sign your initials and the date.

To fully claim this cache you must email us the answers to these 2 questions using the Geocaching mail system:

1. How many Barn Quilts are on the grounds? (all are within 75 yards of the “mid-way”)

2. What are the 3 colors on the Barn Quilt on the Horticulture Building?

You do not need to wait for a reply to log your find on-line. Please do not post anything that will give the answers away or it will be deleted.

This cache will bring you to a viewing location for several of the Barn Quilts of Door County. The quilts are some of 45 placed in Door County between 2010-2012 as a joint project of the UW-Extension, 4-H members and leaders, FFA members and alumni, local quilt guild members and other volunteers. The goals of the Door County Barn Quilt Project are:

• Promote the agricultural heritage of Door Co.

• Provide education about the art and history of quilting

• Highlight the architecture and historical significance of barns throughout Door Co.

• Encourage economic development by promoting rural tourism

• Build an adult-youth partnership through the implementation of the project

More information on the project can be seen at http://barnquiltsofdoorcounty.com
