Asterisk is the character used in printing or writing as a reference mark.
It can be used to censor swear words and vulgar or objectionable text. It is also used used on the internet to correct one's spelling, in which case it appears before or after the correct word. We are sure that many cachers (oldest omaha kid) already know this but we did not. In musical notation the asterisk indicates when the sustain pedal of the piano should be lifted.
