Geocache Description:

camo plastic bottle

The honeybee is the state insect of Kansas. This is cache 22 in a series of 30 caches along stateline road honoring state symbols of Kansas and Nebraska.

The honeybee became the state insect of Kansas in 1976. There are seven species of honeybees, and about 20k different kinds of bees. Honeybees are found through out the world. In 1911 a bee culturist estimated that a quart of honey represented bees flying over an estimated 48,000 miles to gather the nectar needed to produce the honey. Whoa, now thats work! Bees in general are very importatnt for pollenation. Male drone bees die while mating. The queen bee can decide to fertilize the eggs or not. She can also decide if the bees will be males or females. When the queen bee chooses to create another queen bee, that new queen takes a small group of drones and begins her own colony.
