Kansas State University is largest and oldest public university in the state of Kansas. It was established in 1863 and in the fall of 2012 boasted its largest enrollment at 24,378 students. It's located in Manhattan Kansas about an hour south of here along Hwy 77. Kansas State is a member of NCAA division 1 and the big 12 conference. The mascott is the Wildcat and the university is classified as a research university with high research by the Carnigee classification of institutions of higher education. It was orignally named Kansas State Agricultural college. Founded on Feb 16th, 1863 as a land grant institution under the Morrill Act. It was the first land grant college created under that act.
